Hamburg: Wunderland Miniatures Museum

Wunderland is the name of the Miniatures museum located in Hamburg’s Hafencity (Harbour District). As they claim on their website: “The Miniatur Wunderland is hard to describe in words.” In short- it is a small museum, located on two floors of an old harbour building in Hamburg. It consists of several rooms, each one of them being a mini model of a different country. Germany (of course), Switzerland, Austria, USA, Italy are those that you can (at this stage) find there.

Lili’s 5 good-to-know tips when visiting Wunderland Miniatur:
  • Tickets– you can buy your tickets online. Thus you will not only skip the queue, but you will avoid waiting on the spot. The museum has only limited space and they allow only certain number of people. Here is the link to the online form for buying tickets.
  • Best time to visit– the museum is located in a building, so it doesn’t really matter whether you will visit it in the summer or winter. As to what time of the day is best to visit Wunderland, have in mind that the prices are different depending on the timing. Wunderland Museum has very long opening hours- 7:30- 01:00 on weekdays and Saturday and 08:00- 22:00 on Sundays. The later in the evening you visit it, the better. You can get up to 50% discount on the ticket price which is €15. Goes without saying that during the later hours, there are less visitors.
  • The museum is not only for kids. It is really impressive and for us as adults it was similarly engaging.
  • In case you are hungry, the museum also has a restaurant area. It is a back-up option in case you have to wait long and the weather outside is not good.
  • Wunderland constantly improves and new rooms are added. So, in case you were there a couple of years ago, it is worth visiting it again to see what’s new.

Some impressive facts about Wunderland are that there are more than 4 000 buildings, 260 000 figures, more than 9 000 cars and 1 000 trains. A lot of patience and dedication is required to build something like this. They made everything to the smallest details- a man sitting on the toilet, a couple having sex or a dead man in the river being rescued. Just look close and you will be impressed.

This time we decided not to explain, but to show you what we have seen.
